There are numerous way one can manage and monitor their favorite blogs. Some choose to have an aggregator such as RSS Bandit running on their desktop. Others may use one of the many online services, such as Bloglines or NewsGator, which are available. Not surprisingly, Firefox provides another option: Live Bookmarks. With Live Bookmarks you can continue to monitor RSS feed headlines, but it’s built into the browser.

How do you subscribe to the feed? Well, Firefox is able to auto-detect some RSS feeds and when it does a little orange icon shows up on the right side of the address bar.

To subscribe to the feed, one can just click on the orange icon and the Add Live Bookmark dialog appears.

Of course, if a site has an RSS feed, but the orange icon doesn’t show up, you can manually add the feed by selecting “New Live Bookmark…” in the Bookmarks Manager.

You may be wondering, “How can I ensure that Firefox is able to auto-defect the RSS feed for my site?” It’s simple. Just add a line similar to the one below within the Head of your HTML page and you should be good to go:

<link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”RSS 2.0″ xhref=”http://johnnycoder.com/blog/?feed=rss2″ />
